Switching TV signals between digital broadcast centres is just like flying a spacecraft

Operating a spacecraft thousands (or hundreds of millions) of kilometres away, requires complex yet reliable control software. Based on experience from ESA's scientific missions like the Rosetta comet chaser, mission control systems have been adapted to manage switching centres for digital TV broadcasting. These control systems are now used, for example, in media management products for the UK's BBC. Watching Dalek vessels zip through Doctor Who's galaxy makes use of software developed for a real vessel to zip through our Solar System. Cool!
